Representatives of First Northern Bank today presented members of the Vacaville Neighborhood Boys & Girls Club with a check for $1,000 in support of the Club’s efforts to assist children in underserved neighborhoods in the Vacaville area.

"The Vacaville Neighborhood Boys & Girls Club will provide a safe, positive place, where the young people in our community can participate in activities to help build character and develop life-long relationships. We are proud to support such a worthwhile organization,” said Mary Lou Gray, Assistant Vice President/Banking Services Officer of First Northern Bank.

The newly-formed Vacaville Neighborhood Boys & Girls Club’s mission is to help youth of all ages and backgrounds, especially those from underserved neighborhoods, develop qualities needed to become responsible citizens and leaders in the community. Contracted with the City of Vacaville, the Club will open its doors July 1 at all City of Vacaville Neighborhood Centers (Acacia, Mariposa, and Trower) and will begin providing educational and recreational programs after school, during the evening and on weekends. The Club is open to children of all ages.

Studies show that young people are most vulnerable to either committing or being a victim of crime between 3:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. The Boys & Girls Club provides at-risk youth an outlet for such behavior by offering constructive activities such as athletic, recreational and educational opportunities, leadership development, cultural enrichment, health and life skills, and more.
